No Mass-Market Decks Here

Printed in the USA

I’ve been asked why I don’t print my decks overseas—especially when doing so would drastically cut costs, add flashy finishes, and increase profits.

The thought has crossed my mind—especially after paying an invoice for printing. But every time, I come back to this: I want to know who’s making my work. I want to know that the people printing my decks are being paid fairly and working in safe conditions. That they’re not being exposed to harmful chemicals—or that those chemicals aren’t ending up in drinking water or farm fields. That the company handling my art isn’t operating behind closed doors with practices I’d never co-sign.

Printing in the USA gives me that peace of mind. It also means I don’t have to worry about customs delays or censorship because a card—like the Strength card in Unfinished Business—includes imagery that doesn’t sit well with an authoritarian government.

No, my decks don’t have gilded edges or magnetic boxes. But what they do have is original art—made by me, printed by a small business here, and packed by hand on an island in the Pacific Northwest. I’d rather make art on my own terms—terms that align with my values—than cut corners just to make a higher profit.

And if you’ve supported my work, thank you. You’ve helped make that choice possible.
