Like tarot, Lenormand is a fixed system of cards with the same meanings and symbolism across decks. The symbol on each of the 36 cards represents a specific aspect of life, such as love, money, travel, or health, and when combined with other cards, the spread creates a story that reveals new insights and opportunities.  But unlike tarot, which has a more complex system of symbolism and interpretation, Lenormand is more straightforward and literal in its meaning. You can read the cards like a sentence to answer your questions.
 
For example, if you ask a question about your love life and draw the cards the Man, the Heart, and the Ring, you have a pretty clear answer right there: a masculine figure will come into your life, you will fall in love, and a commitment follows. But if you draw the Bouquet, the Letter, and the Mountain, you have a very different answer: You are happy now, but some news will challenge your relationship.
