The Importance of Awe

Awe from my Liminal Forest Oracle. Awe is such a powerful experience - it takes us into a world of possibility. It is the ability to see or feel something that enchants us, that allows us to feel part of something much bigger than ourselves. Psychology Today has an excellent article on the power of Awe https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/common-sense-science/202601/the-quiet-power-of-awe

It is through this moment that we can take a step back, remove ourselves from what stresses us, and become part of something that heals, that inspires, that leaves us feeling a sense of optimism so that when we return to whatever it was that was stressing us out, we see our situation a little differently. You don’t need to live in the middle of the woods or in a remote part of nature to experience awe. When I lived in the city, it came from taking a moment to notice how flowers seemed to bloom unexpectedly or to see crows lovingly picking and cleaning each other. It is found in clouds and in puddles, awe is everywhere, and it is one of the greatest tools we have to reconnect with our higher self.

If something is stressing you out, try this simple practice: pause wherever you are and take one minute to look around for something that captures your attention. It could be a subtle shift in sunlight, the sound of birds, or even a splash of color. Let yourself be present with that sight or sound, letting it fill your senses and gently inviting a sense of wonder to arise. This can be done anytime, anywhere, and you may find it creates a small but powerful shift in your perspective. Our busy lives distract us from these moments, but when we slow down and look, it is worth every second.
